God doesn’t need my help being God. He just needs my availability.
I have a love/hate relationship with that quote.
Honestly? I put a lot of pressure on myself as I move throughout God’s calling on my life. I want to make a difference. I want to love people the way Jesus loved people and leave the world better than the way I found it. But, in the midst of all of that, is the pressure I put on myself to “get it all done”. I mean, if I don’t do it, who will? Then, there are moments where this quote thumps me on the nose and it’s a beautiful reminder and truth I need: God doesn’t need my help being God. He just needs my availability.
Jesus speaks to this in Matthew 6 (which is a passage I come back to REGULARLY). Jesus, looking at people through the eyes of compassion, sees that there are hearts around him bogged down with life, details, control and worry. And Jesus reminds them that worry does no good. If God provides for the birds of the air and lilies of the field, will He not then provide for each of us and our needs? Then Jesus speaks this over those that gathered around Him…
Ready?
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all these things will be given to you too.” (Matt. 6:33 VOICE)
A beautiful truth. Control and worry creep into our lives WAY too much. But each time those weeds start to grow in your life, pull them out by the root. Instead, replace them with this truth: God doesn’t need our help being God. He just needs our availability.
So may you be fully present to God’s calling today in your life and may you respond being reminded that God will get you there. You just need to be fully present to His calling today.
