I say often that I believe the Holy Spirit speaks, whispers and nudges us all on a daily basis. Yet, in an over-sensory world, how easy it can be to shrug off a “nudge” or push aside a “whisper” for other things on our list to accomplish.
Full transparency here: I read the Bible. A lot. I mean, it’s kind of what I do, right? Yet, oftentimes I am reading it to study and prepare for a sermon coming the following Sunday (Sunday is ALWAYS coming for pastors, by the way). However, I can’t say I am always persistent when it comes to just reading God’s Word to let it read ME in my daily life.
That’s where the nudge came. A friend recently mentioned to me the desire to do a yearlong Bible reading, but also mentioned the reality that accountability is always the tough part. Like many resolutions, there’s a strong start but they seem to fall apart a couple weeks into the new year.
Here’s where the Facebook idea came to light. I threw out a quick status on Facebook yesterday asking if anyone might like the idea of joining a group committed to reading through the Bible in a year and using the Facebook page as an accountability group, as well as a way to post prayers, inspirations and questions.
Over 250 people from literally all around the WORLD gave a quick shoutout to say, “We’re in”!
SO… let’s do this.
Here’s what you can do to join the group.
