“A person’s steps are made secure by the Lord when they delight in his way. Though they trip up, they won’t be thrown down, because the Lord holds their hand.” Psalm 37:23-24
Have you ever seen a baby take their first steps? It’s a pretty crazy and joyous occasion. I’m pretty certain when my own kids took theirs (now, many years ago) our screaming and cries of encouragement scared them half to death and they fell over. Yet, when they fell, the same thing would always happen. We would always smile, encourage them, help them up and say, “Do it again! You can do this!” It’s such a sweet memory.
As I read Psalm 37 earlier this week, I love the observations that David makes in relationship to our walk and the Lord’s provision found in the midst of it. Note that David says, “A person’s steps are made secure by the Lord when they delight in his way.” To delight is to stand in the truth that our Father is holding our hands and guiding our steps as we walk. And what happens when we delight in the Lord’s provision? Our steps are secure. I love that. There are a lot of things that we may feel insecure about. But one thing David promises? We’re secure in our steps when we let the Lord lead. We may not always have balance, we may not always know the way or like what we’re standing in the midst of, yet, no matter the uncertainty or shakiness of our faith, we can stand solidly walk in this truth: our delight is in the Lord and in His strength and mighty power. Greater? The Lord rejoices over EVERY STEP we take in faith.
My friend, I don’t know what you’re walking in the midst of today, but I can assure you of this: you don’t walk alone. May you feel the Lord’s hands take yours as He guides you through every step of this day and each day to come.
