Ok. I will admit it. My Pandora music station MAY NOT be like yours. I love all kinds of music. For example, this morning I was out on my morning run and my shuffle brought up musical selections from artists ranging from Johnny Cash to Justin Timberlake to Veggie Tales (one of those, by the way, I enjoyed just a touch more than the others;-) Out of all the musical selections this morning, God grabbed me through one song, “Home” by Phil Phillips.
Take a look at the lyrics:
Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your homeSettle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be foundJust know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your homeSettle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be foundJust know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home
We’re in the season of Lent. It’s a journey we take of reflection with Christ leading to Easter Sunday morning and resurrection. In that perspective of reflection, I couldn’t stop hearing these lyrics through the ears of the disciples. Isn’t this exactly the message that Christ had for the disciples? There’s trouble in the world and, with that trouble, comes fear. But I love the line that says, “the trouble it might drag you down/if you get lost, you can always be found/Just know you’re not alone, cause I’m going to make this place your home”
I have heard many share that they just can’t wait to get to heaven and be done with the troubles that life brings. But, I must confess that there’s such truth in the lyrics presented in this song because they match the words of Christ.
We can long for heaven, but we mustn’t neglect the opportunity to be builders of the Kingdom of God here and now.
After all. Maybe you prayed this portion of the Lord’s prayer on Sunday? “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10).
Be encouraged. Know you’re not alone. He will make this place our home. And we have the tools to start building that Kingdom by the way we love.
Let’s get to work.
