Last Sunday, I participated in an event at the Woodlands UMC called, “Sign the Slab”. There are several exciting building projects happening and last Sunday, the church community was invited to take sharpie to foundation and write verses of encouragement, promise and prayer on the floor and beams of what will be the new Family Life Center on the church campus. It was pretty incredible to see so many writing out scriptures, prayers and sharing their hearts onto the actual foundation that ministry will be happening in. As I took part in this event with the church family, it lead me to reflect on the following.
Each day, we have the opportunity to do the very same in our lives. We arise each morning with the potential to take a sharpie and write out our hearts to God onto every area of our life. We can write out and be reminded of God’s promises to us all through His Word found in Scripture. We can take the circumstances weighing us down and write out our needs, desires and where we need God to meet us on our lives. We can write in very specific ways our acts of adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication to the Lord. Here’s the thing, we just need to pick up the pen and start writing.
I have always loved Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” But, honestly, you can’t stop with knowing that God has a plan for your life. There’s more. Read on:
“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” -Jeremiah 29:12,13
There’s the beauty this morning. One, God has a plan for your life. Hear that. But there’s so much more. He wants, wait… not strong enough… He DESIRES to hear from us. When you approach this new day and write out your heart on every aspect of your life, it’s heard. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”. So, let me ask. Where are the areas you need to lift up to God? Write them out. Maybe this means literally. Maybe you turn off the radio on your daily commute and just say them out loud to God. Whatever this means to you, can I ask? Let God hear from you. Don’t hold back. He’s big enough to take them all.
