I recently got a call from my friend, Cody, whom I hadn’t seen since high school. We met over coffee and talked about life and where we both had been over the past several years. I knew I was in for a story when I asked Cody how he was doing and he smiled, leaned back, and replied,
“Brother, I’m sipping from the saucer because my cup runneth over.”
I loved that response.
I shared my journey through ministry and how I landed as a pastor at The Woodlands UMC. I reflected on the days that God’s call on my life made sense and was easy to see and I reminisced on the times I couldn’t find a burning bush much less hear a gentle whisper as to where God was taking me or what God wanted from me and my family.
Cody shared his story of owning his own business and losing his business. There was the grief and heartbreak over that season in his life and his deeper desire to go into full-time mission’s ministry but not knowing how and what that might look like. He would get married, have kids, and continue to work in building and construction using the gifts God had given him but all the while, he sensed God had more in store. Today? Cody is now working with a mission organization and will be traveling to India three times a year working alongside his family and a calling that aligns beautifully with his hearts and talents.
Love Isaiah 35:7 where God promises provision:
The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs.
Patience can be challenging. I get that. However, don’t forget that God’s still there. Take a breath. Lift your eyes. Be reminded that God’s got you. Give thanks for the blessings you have, the small and great ones. And then? Go on. Sip from the saucer because you’ll see that your cup overflows.
