In my early days before God pulled me kicking and screaming into ministry, I was a radio DJ. The station was 92.3 FM, KCUL, and I played the greatest hits of the 50s, 60s, and early 70s. Great era of music, right? The Beatles, Elvis, the Eagles, and Chubby Checker to name a few. Now, I have to be honest. I loved the job, but the music quickly grew old. Here’s why. I was sequestered to a small room and for five hours a day, five days a week, every week, for almost ten years, it was the same songs, the same artists. Nothing ever changed. Isn’t that the definition of insanity, by the way? Goodness. Today, I still get the shakes when I hear a Chubby Checker song and no, I do not want to do the Twist.
Last Sunday, I spoke on the “I Am” statement found in John 10:7 where Jesus said, “I am the door.” I loved sharing this message. There are a lot of things that knock on the doors of our lives every single day, right? Think about it. Fear, worry, anxiety. If we’re not careful, over time, this can really wear us down. Life can wear us down. But what does the psalmist say? Psalm 23:1 says, The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. The word “want” in Hebrew is chaser and means “to lack, be without, become empty.” Think about that for a moment. If the Lord is truly our shepherd, then we shall not become empty. How amazing is that? [pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]The Good Shepherd stands at the door and will not allow us to live in a constant state of disappointment where circumstances will drain us dry leaving us wanting… leaving us empty.[/pullquote]
So to you, friend, may you remember the Good Shepherd stands at the door. He is watching over you; and the promise is that those who enter through the door of the Good Shepherd, they will go in and come out and find green pastures. (John 10:9) Green pastures? Now that is a song worthy of “repeat” for eternity, right?
And all of God’s people said, “Amen.”
