Grace and peace, friends.
Last Sunday, we kicked off our Unseen series in the Harvest. It was such an incredible day from start to end.
In the book, Unseen, authored by Sarah Hagerty, Sarah writes:
God loves to hide us. Behind circumstances and callings and misjudgments and scorn from even the dearest of friends, He hides us. We may feel veiled and unnoticed, but God is training us to turn our eyes toward Him, to find Him there. Our hidden places aren’t signs of God’s displeasure or punishment. The psalmist says that the one “who dwells in the secret place of the Most High” has a refuge and a fortress in God (Psalm 91:1). God doesn’t banish us to this hidden place. He invites us. And finding God in the secret can teach a heart to sing.
Beautiful.
The reality is that we live in a noisy culture. From cell phones to electronic billboards, from overcrowded places and overwhelming calendars, it’s no wonder we’re more stressed out and anxiety-ridden than we’ve ever been. Yet, God is not distant. In fact, I believe, there are God winks and Spirit filled-moments where the Holy Spirit wants to speak to us, to encourage us, to tell us that God is for us and not against us. All that’s needed?
To turn down the volume on the noise in our lives.
Remember, we control the volume.
Let me encourage you to spend some time over the course of this series camping out in Psalm 139. Here’s a beautiful psalm of David where he reflects on being known by his Creator. With twenty-four verses in this psalm, maybe you take the next twenty-four days to invite God to speak to you within the context of each verse. Grab a small journal and make it your Psalm 139 prayer book. Write a verse on each page and then ask God to speak to you within what the Psalmist is declaring. And then? Write. Reflect. Pray. See where God speaks.
Who’s up for the challenge?
